Gran Dolina

Gran Dolina is an archaeological site in Central Spain, at which remnants dating back to prehistory have been recovered. The human remains found there are primarily juveniles and show strong evidence of inter- group cannibalism. Based on scientific analysis of the fossils found there, it is widely believed that an unidentified group of hominins hunted, killed, and consumed members of another hominin group, Homo antecessor, specifically targeting their young. Cannibalism was extremely common among early humans, and there are many examples of it in the archaeological record, but few exemplify the grotesque violence and brutality that existed in prehistory as well as Gran Dolina.
